5 Stunning Facts about Dogs

1- Dogs are our oldest best friends

Scientists believe that Humans and dogs became best friends since about 33,000 years ago. DNA studies have proved that such life-long friendship started back in Ice Age Europe when Man tamed wolves, the ancestors of our domesticated dogs, to help him in his hunt journeys.

2- Not all dogs can bark

When dogs start barking, they just do not stop! However, there is a breed of dogs that cannot bark. This breed is called the Basenji. It is a medium-sized dog originated from Central Africa and used mainly for hunting. However, instead of barking, this dog resorts to some kind of yodeling.

3- Dalmatian puppies are originally white and not dotted

The Dalmatian is a big-sized dog that is largely known for its unique black dots (and of course the 101 Dalmatians cartoon!). However, when this breed of dogs is born, the puppies are found to be totally white in color. These black dots start appearing on its skin after 3 to 4 weeks, and they keep on developing on its skin throughout its life but in a slower rate.

4- No chocolate for dogs!

Research discovered that chocolate can be poisoning to dogs. It is found that a chemical in chocolate named theobromine can seriously harm your dog and even kill it if it ingests more than 100 milligrams/body weight of it.

5- Dogs are not colorblind

Myth says that dogs can only see things in black and white. However, studies proved that dogs can see colors as good as humans. The only difference is that dogs can see colors on a yellow and blue scale. So if you are planning to teach your dog how to drive, take care because it will see red as black.
